The State Government will govern from North Queensland next month as part of Premier Palaszczuk’s commitment to governing from the regions.
Ms Palaszckuk said it was an opportunity to consult closely with communities, particularly after the recent release of the state budget.
“The budget this week has invested strongly in far north Queensland jobs. The budget will directly support 3800 jobs,” she said.
“Significantly, we are investing $819 million in infrastructure and $1.1 billion to the Cairns and Hinterland and Torres Cape Hospital and Health Services.”
Member for Barron River Craig Crawford said the move was another example of the Government’s investment in the regions,
“With commitments like $176 million for the extension of the Cairns Convention Centre and $60 million towards the Cairns Shipping Development Project it demonstrates the Government’s commitments to the region,” he said.
“The Government also committed another $200 million for the Works for Queensland program for regional local government projects to support local jobs.”
