With the announcement Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio will retire on 21 July, the LGAQ pays tribute to a local government legend, who dedicated more than 40 years to the sector.
“More than 40 years in local government is incredible proof of Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio’s commitment to his community,” LGAQ CEO Alison Smith said.
“A stalwart of the local government sector – first in Millmerran then, following amalgamation, in Toowoomba region – Cr Antonio has represented the interests of his community to all levels of government and industry.
“He led his community through significant natural disasters and their rebuild and recovery, as well as being part of the push to secure the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics and the associated infrastructure it could bring.
“I wish him well and thank him for his incredible commitment to the local government sector and to improving his community’s liveability.”
