The QLD state government has announced it will invest half a million dollars into the South-east corner’s waterways, riverbanks and grazing land.
Minister for State Development and Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Dr Anthony Lynham said the project would target seven SEQ rivers and catchments between Noosa to Logan and Lockyer Creek.
“This will help make these areas more resilient in extreme weather events and improve overall catchment health, water quality and surrounding land condition,” Dr Lynham said.
“Healthy Land and Water will work with other community groups, local governments, participating landholders and other departments to raise awareness of water quality and waterway health issues and encourage private landholders to undertake improved riparian land management.”
The funding will be administered through the Healthy land and Water organisation; a community focused and science based waterway and natural asset management organisation that works to protect and restore the natural resources of South east Queensland.
The funds are part of the $80 million, five-year Queensland Natural Resource Management Investment Program.
