The Regulation will expire on 1 September 2019.
The LGAQ has been advised that Biosecurity Queensland is currently conducting a short review of the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Regulation 2009 with the purpose of ensuring adequate provisions are maintained so that the purposes of the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008 continue to be met.
Biosecurity Queensland are seeking feedback on the Regulation in general, specific elements of the Regulation, and any deficiencies.
It is important to note however, that this review does not consider amendments to the Act and as such the LGAQ will continue to advocate for this as a priority.

Background
The regulation prescribes:
- Training organisations and courses for approved implanters of microchips
- Standards for microchips
- Exemptions from the requirement to register dogs with local councils
- Approved entities for exempting accredited members from registering as dog breeders
- The Greyhound Adoption Program for decommissioning greyhounds.
As Biosecurity Queensland has been collaborating with a number of key stakeholders recently to implement Dog Breeder Registration, and few issues relating to the Regulation have arisen during those discussions, they do not anticipate major issues arising through this consultation.
