The LGAQ has applauded the announcement by the Deputy Premier, Minister for Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning the Hon Jackie Trad MP of the $200 million Works for Queensland program.
This is the culmination of six months engagement and collaboration between the LGAQ, with the support of councils, and the government to develop a program that will assist with regional unemployment across the state.
The Government has allocated funding to councils on the basis of population and local unemployment and there are 65 councils eligible for funding.
The Department of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning (DILGP) have released the funding guidelines and streamlined application process.
Councils are encouraged to prepare their list of projects immediately to provide DILGP for approval, and to speak with Departmental staff to assist in expediting this process.
Applications close on 10 February 2017 and funding must be spent by 30 November 2017.
