Lowood community working together to fight truancy

Published: 2nd February 2017

With support from the Somerset Council, a program initiated by the Lowood State School and State High School is deterring truancy by engaging local businesses.

Businesses that support the program will prohibit students from purchasing items in their respective stores between 8.30am to 3pm Monday to Friday, unless the young person is accompanied by an appropriate adult.

“Council supports this program being implemented as businesses will be taking an active role in encouraging students to return to school,” said Somerset Regional Council Mayor Graeme Lehmann.

“Attendance at school is essential and we want to support our young people with promoting the need to have a good education for their future job prospects.”
