A first draft of the Queensland Local Government Advocacy Action Plan has been developed and endorsed by the LGAQ Policy Executive at this week's meeting in Winton, drawing out six key themes:
- About people
- Open, transparent and accountable
- Financially responsible
- Strong, sustainable and healthy communities
- Stands up for communities
- Innovative and connected
The document will be finalised in the first quarter of 2017 and discussed and refined with members as part of the Elected Member Update.
The LGAQ has also outlined the areas of focus for the 10-point State Election Policy Plan, endorsed by the December 2016 Policy Executive. The 10 policy areas include:
- Investment in local infrastructure for jobs creation
- Future-proofing local government with innovation
- State Government funding reform
- Natural disaster preparedness
- Industrial relations and local government workforce
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
- Climate change and the Great Barrier Reef
- Biosecurity
- Electricity (subject to final QPC recommendations)
- Resource communities
