Feedlot expansion in Western Downs creates local jobs

Western Downs Regional Council has approved the expansion of a Chinchilla feedlot, creating 15 new local jobs.

Operated by Stanbroke, the feedlot will increase its capacity by 60%, taking the standard cattle unit feedlot from 25,000 up to 40,000 and boosting their workforce to 63 people.

Western Downs Regional Council spokesperson for planning and environment Councillor Andrew Smith said the expansion was a signal Council was open for business.

'Last meeting we were approving Australia’s largest solar farm, and this month sees the significant expansion of a local agri-business,' Cr Smith said.

'It’s great to see this type of business confidence and the diversity of opportunities that our region has on offer.

'Developments like this support and value-add to the local supply chain with everything from feed to transport.'

The modern facility was assessed to meet rigorous environmental standards, and conditions relating to road access were also included in the approval.
