Mount Isa announced as location for Triple J One Night Stand Concert

Published: 24th March 2017

This week Triple J unveiled the remote outback town of Mount Isa as the host for its 2017 One Night Stand Concert, to be held on 22 April. The all-ages, free concert is set to attract a crowd of 10, 000 from around Australia.

Mayor Joyce McCulloch said the event was timely, exciting and a great opportunity for Mount Isa.

"The economic stimulus that's going to come to the community is just fantastic," she said.

"And what an opportune time to come to Mount Isa. We've had great rainfall so we'''re looking a little bit lusher than what we were and it's going to be a party atmosphere to inject into the community.

"This is huge news for Mount Isa, and there will be a tremendous amount of support for this.

“We have an amazingly vibrant and cultural community out here, and we don't always get the chance to have touring artists visit us, so we will be embracing this opportunity whole-heartedly," she said.

The concert will feature a range of national headline acts, including San Cisco, Tash Sultana, The Smith Street Band and Thundamentals.

"The One Night Stand is one of the best things we get to do, taking killer live acts from around the country to regional towns like Mount Isa," Triple j content director Ollie Wards said.

"We’re packing the J Van with snacks and our musical mates and can’t wait to make the road trip into Mount Isa in April."

The event will be held at Tony White Oval with a gold coin donation going to a local youth charity, to be announced at a later date.
