Ideas and resources are being shared in a virtual network connecting local government media and communications officers across the state.
The group connects through a private Facebook group and is facilitated by the LGAQ.
LGAQ Media Executive Craig Johnstone said that the group’s popularity spoke to the key role of communication in the daily operation of a local council.
“The communication landscape is always changing and evolving,” he said.
“The network gives professionals working in communications the chance to ask questions, share ideas and get instant feedback from others working in local government.”
The latest in social media strategy, the promotion of recycling campaigns to Queensland communities and budget communication campaigns are among recent topics of discussion.
Cook Shire Council Media and Communication Officer Sarah Martin said that the group was particularly useful for her working as a one-person communications team.
“You can see if you’re getting the real deal on platforms and services, as opposed to hearing from a salesperson.”
“Getting other people’s experiences on common projects and issues is valuable.”
Communication, media and digital staff of all levels are encouraged to join the Facebook group. For an invitation, email communication@lgaq.asn.au.
