A new campaign has been launched by the Queensland Water Directorate and the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) to show Queensland communities how to manage water in all seasons.
The qldwater on tap campaign includes a website and social media toolkit with tips, guides and ideas to show that being water wise is about more than just saving water.
Arron Hieatt, LGAQ Principal Advisor - Advocacy for Water and Sewerage Infrastructure said the program provides a public-facing framework and information provided ‘on tap’.
“The common view that being water wise means saving water is misleading - truly water wise communities have a deeper understanding of where their water comes from, how it is treated, and what the specific issues are in their region,’ he said.
Program manager Dr Rob Fearon said awareness around water conservation was key to the campaign,
“The highly variable Queensland climate means local Councils need to cope with droughts that are often interrupted by devastating floods, and people forget that treated clean water can be scarce during flood events when they seem to be surrounded by water.”
