Leaders from Queensland Treasury and Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) have joined LGAQ CEO Greg Hallam on a five-day tour of regional Queensland.
The executive delegation this week visited Balonne, Central Highlands, Winton, Mount Isa and Mareeba councils with the aim of enhancing understanding of regional industries and economic capacity.
LGAQ CEO Greg Hallam said that the tour was a significant undertaking which represented the importance of regional Queensland and its economic capacity for industry and government leaders.
“It was a privilege to visit tourist, agricultural and industrial hubs in each local government area on each stop,” he said.
“Getting on the ground and touring some of these operations really hammers home the sheer scale and diversity of industry in regional Queensland.”
Broccoli and blueberry farms in Balonne Shire and an Inland Port and a Cypress Macadamia Farm in Emerald were among the locations visited.
The group also visited the construction site of the new Waltzing Matilda Centre in Winton, which is being managed by LGIS under new LGAQ umbrella brand Peak Services.
Mr Hallam said the tour also showcased the LGAQ’s commitment to personalised and localised engagement with its members.
“In this same week, our President was also on the road, visiting 12 indigenous councils on both sides of Cape York,” he said.
