Boulia council uses GPS to gain revenue windfall

Published: 25th August 2017

Councils using GPS vehicle tracking solutions stand to gain a revenue windfall following the

Australian Tax Office class ruling to allow location based vehicle data in calculating the off-road fuel tax rebate.

Boulia will be the first Queensland council to roll out GPS solutions (Navman) that feature the capability to calculate the off-road fuel tax rebate.

The ATO ruling also introduces a lump-sum retrospective fuel rebate claim for off-road and auxiliary fuel use for up to four years.

The decision allows councils to accurately and electronically claim the rebate.
