The upcoming Burdekin Water Forum will delve into cutting edge technology used in irrigated farming around Australia.

Burdekin Shire Council Mayor and Burdekin Water Futures Chair Lyn McLaughlin said the forum would bring farmers, scientists and government representatives from around Australia and examine best practice in managing irrigated agriculture in Great Barrier Reef catchments.

“The management of irrigated agriculture in Great Barrier Reef catchments comes with its own unique set of challenges and opportunities,” Cr McLaughlin

“This conference will showcase initiatives that have been developed in communities and environments across the country.”

Guest speaker AgriTech Solutions managing director Steve Attard will encourage farmers to embrace new irrigation technologies which some local growers are already using with great success.

“We’ll have a panel of farmers speaking to the audience about their experiences of using new technology to improve irrigation management on their own farms,” Mr Attard said.

“It’s about highlighting that this does work in our region. We’ve got real life experience of farmers in the district who are already doing it and having success.
