The southeast Queensland region has gained an extra 86,000 megalitres of drinking water equivalent to about three and a half months’ supply due to recent heavy rainfall.
Water Supply Minister Mark Bailey said the combined storage of the region’s 12 key dams that make up nearly 90 percent of the southeast Queensland’s drinking water supply has increased by 4 percent to 75 percent.
However, despite good rains, he urged residences and businesses to be “water wise”, particularly on the Sunshine Coast, where the biggest water source Lake Baroon, remained at just 60 percent capacity.
He said the SEQ region needed more rain to ensure its water supplies returned to 100 percent.
