On the ground for final push

LGAQ CEO Greg Hallam was on the ground in western Queensland this week talking local government priorities ahead of the state election on November 25th.

Real state government support to reduce the harm caused by weeds and feral animals and dedicated funding to ensure regional access to robust core telecommunications topped the list during his three-day visit to Barcaldine, Blackall-Tambo and Longreach councils.

Mr Hallam toured a $2.2 million sporting facility in Aramac under construction by Barcaldine Shire Council during his trip. “It was fantastic to see such a well-considered multipurpose facility being built for use in this outback community of about 350 people,” he said.

“It’s a project which exemplifies much of the construction work happening in regional and rural Queensland - which is geared towards liveability and building social connections in our regions.”

The LGAQ’s State Election regional, rural and remote advocacy asks were tabled at council meetings attended by Mr Hallam.

“As the responses from the major and minor parties roll in this week, we’re continuing to push hard to ensure the all parties in the election race understand and commit to the proposals in our 10 Point State Election Plan.”

The LGAQ is currently collating responses received from the major and minor parties and will release them early next week.
