Fresh from a not-so-certain election, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Deputy Premier Jackie Trad and Local Government Minister Mark Furner met with LGAQ President Mark Jamieson and chief executive Greg Hallam earlier this week.
The meeting focused on the ongoing recovery from Tropical Cyclone Debbie, the delivery by regional councils on the Government’s first $200 million round of the Works for Queensland Program and the next steps on the development of the Sunshine Coast International Broadband Submarine Cable project.
Mayor Jamieson and Greg Hallam were among the first to meet with the Premier since Saturday’s election. Mayor Jamieson said the prioritised meeting was an indication of a strong relationship with the State Government.
"LGAQ CEO Greg Hallam and I discussed state-wide issues and initiatives such as the natural disaster recovery progress eight months post ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie, the wet season forecast into 2018, geothermal and waste-to-energy opportunities as well as Works for Queensland," he said.
