The latest LGAQ Digital Productivity Report revealed that cyber security is emerging as a top priority for Queensland councils.
To add to councils' arsenal of tools, Telstra has released a cyber security pack to further illuminate the current trends, tools and threats on the cyber security horizon.
Top 7 for securing your data:
- Next generation perimeter solutions (firewalls that discern, detect, prevent and remedy security vulnerabilities in conjunction with other security controls)
- Cloud security
- Mobility and end point security (a data loss prevention strategy that secures all entry points opened by external devices)
- Security aware culture
- Advanced malware protection
- Security analytics
- Application threat protection (protecting your business-critical applications in the data center)
The ‘five knows’ of cyber security
- Know how to value your data
- Know who has access to your data
- Know where your data is
- Know who is protecting your data
- Know how well your data is protected
5 predicted trends:
- Machine learning and AI (artificial intelligence)
- Hacktivism (the subversive use of computers and computer networks to promote a political agenda or a social change)
- Ransomware (60% of Australian organisations experienced a ransomware incident in the past year)
- Shifting data to cloud software
- Connected devised and IoT (internet of things)
Ultimately, The Queensland Government’s ASO/ISO 27000 is the standard for councils to aim for when it comes to protecting your data – (a topic we covered last year when we spoke to the Queensland Government Chief Information office).
This year, the LGAQ will be ramping up its efforts to raise awareness and work with the State Government to bring further focus to the matter.
Please contact the LGAQ if you would like more information.
