Former Murgon Shire Council chairman and South Burnett icon Bill Roberts has died at age 92.

In a lengthy obituary published in the South Burnett Times, Mr Roberts was described as a tireless advocate for his community and a dedicated family man.

He served as deputy chairman of Murgon Shire Council from 1970 to 1972 and chairman from 1972 to 2000 as well as serving as vice-president of the Burnett Local Government Association from 1979 to 1980.

Mr Roberts was one of three former long serving mayors of the Burnett region who have recently passed away within weeks of each other.

Former Wondai Shire Chairman and Mayor Percy Harold Iszlaub AM and chairman of the Kilkivan Shire Council Alec Frederick McIntosh OAM were both recently farewelled by friends and colleagues.

LGAQ CEO Greg Hallam recognised the contributions of all three local government stalwarts to their communities, the sector and the State.
