Queensland’s flood-hit communities will be able to build back better with a major $170 million funding win announced over the weekend, the peak body representing Queensland councils says.
Local Government Association of Queensland CEO Alison Smith thanked the State and Federal governments for the joint Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements funding package which will allow councils to apply to the Queensland Reconstruction Authority to repair damage to a better standard to face future weather events.
“Queensland is Australia’s most disaster-prone state so we must always endeavour to build damaged infrastructure back at standard designed to endure the next disaster to strike,” Ms Smith said.
“Councils cannot do this on their own so we welcome the support of the State and Federal governments through critical initiatives like this $170 million funding allocation.”
