Queensland councils welcome the Federal Government’s announcement of another 40 new mobile base stations across the state.
Local Government Association of Queensland CEO Greg Hallam said the latest round of funding under the Commonwealth’s Mobile Black Spot Program – which includes a $1.1 million contribution from the State - would give regional and remote Queensland communities a boost at a critical time.
“This announcement of a further 40 new mobile bases for Queensland will mean improved coverage for communities like Eromanga, Rubyvale, Linville, Elbow Valley and Hungerford,” Mr Hallam said.
“This will improve connectivity and help local economies at a time when councils across Queensland are focussed on protecting their communities amid the COVID-19 crisis and ensuring they are in the best position to build back stronger.”
Mr Hallam said the LGAQ would review the Commonwealth’s discussion paper on the future of the program before making a submission on behalf of the state’s 77 councils.
“We must ensure all local government areas in Queensland have access to robust telecommunications infrastructure,” he said.
