I loved my time working at the Association and immersing myself in the vibrant, interesting and colourful world of local government. During my first two year stint at the LGAQ I certainly had some amazing adventures, from flying over the Torres Strait to driving through the outback in 42 degree heat dodging emus! 

A big highlight for me was the opportunity to visit and meet mayors and councillors, as well as being treated to such generous local tours by councils, which I feel very privileged to have experienced all over the state.

The Association looks after its employees, from hot yoga membership discounts to family friendly policies. It’s a supportive and flexible working environment, with a positive work culture. A great place to work - that's why I am back! Samantha Dean, (currently) Communications Manager.

How the LGAQ works for you

Finding us

Along with a great working environment at Local Government House, 25 Evelyn Street, Newstead we are close to Fortitude Valley and the CBD and there are many easily accessable means of transport to get you to work. 

LG House is in the Brisbane City Council 2 hour parking area – there are ‘pay as you park' meters throughout Newstead averaging at $8.00 per day.

Active Transport

Cycling – Bike racks are available at LG House, as are showers.

Public Transport

Train: the nearest train station Bowen Hills an 8-10 minute walk.


  • 300, 305 from Toombul through Ascot/Hamilton
  • 322 from Chermside
  • 306 from Toombul via Sandgate Road

All of these services continue through the CBD to the Cultural Centre and Southbank- great to get into town at any time. All of these services provide easy access to LG House from the end of Evelyn Street - Stop 10 on Breakfast Creek Road.

  •  CityGlider from the City stops on Skyring Terrace, a 2 minute walk away.

Ferry: Tenneriffe cross-river ferry is a 5 minute walk through the newly developed Waterfront/GasWorks Precinct.
