
Regional Youth Networks
LGAQ is continuing to work in partnership with local councils, peak bodies, community agencies and other key stakeholders to facilitate and support regional youth development networks across the state. Regional Networks increase the effectiveness of workers; to plan and deliver policies, programs and services for young people; through information sharing, professional development and peer support.
The networks will be a unified voice providing LGAQ (and other peak bodies and government agencies) with a greater understanding of localised issues and opportunities for youth focused workers (and young people) and be able to provide more targeted services, support and training that is relevant to them.
Regional Network Forums are being held across the State in 2011 with a focus to:

Identify regional issues and strategies; look to developing regional planning and partnerships; share ideas, models and best practice solutions; participate in training and professional development; build localised professional support networks.

Who should attend?
Local Government employees, managers and elected members; Youth Service Providers working in partnership with Local Governments; and State and Commonwealth Government representatives, that either work with young people or advocate for them.

Youthipedia: the a-z of youth development: Conference
YOUTHIPEDIA: the a - z of youth development CONFERENCE aims to build the skills and capacity of youth development focused workers and advocates to better respond to needs, issues, experiences and ideas of young people across Queensland.
Conference Audience:
- Local government staff who work with young people such as: youth and community development officers, library staff, cultural workers, social planners, sport & recreation officers;
- Local government youth advocates such as: Social Planners, Infrastructure Planners, Managers, CEO’s or Elected Members;
- Professionals providing youth development on behalf of, alongside or in partnership with their local council
- Interstate local government youth focused workers and advocates;
- Peak Bodies
- State and Commonwealth Government employees and Elected Representatives
Youthipedia will:
- Explore the key topics and best practice models of youth engagement, development and participation and the role and responsibility of local government in leading these practices, programs and policies
- Add value to workers to build on their already existing knowledge and skills, challenge their thinking and build capacity to try new things and explore new options
- Give workers information that they need to go back to their community with new ideas, fresh perspectives, evidence based practice and the courage to re-write youth development in their region
- Build the youth development sector by providing a forum for workers and advocates to network and build professional relationships across the regions and the state.
Conference Format:
- Keynote Speakers: provide new information, research, ideas or are motivational/ inspirational. Keynote sessions need to be accompanied by an interactive component, providing youth officers with a chance to ask questions or reflect on what they’ve heard.
- Case Study Presentations and Panels: showcase current projects, programs, policies related to youth development. They are grouped based on topic (eg: Youth Arts, Youth Engagement) and allow for workers to present their work back to their peers.
- Workshops: are educational or hands-on seminars that provide interaction and exchange of ideas, skills, activities and information.
- Regional Network Meetings: further build on the Regional Youth Networks being developed across the State – by creating an opportunity for face to face interaction between workers, discussion and planning relevant to their local areas.
- Social Events: such as the Conference Dinner, Local Tours and other activities are run alongside the conference to allow for informal networking and team building between the youth officers.
- Consultation with the state-wide Youth Development Sector: as part of Youthipedia delegates are consulted about their key support, development and advocacy needs and ideas that feed into the work undertaken by the LGAQ Youth Advisor in the year ahead.
