What kind of services / support does LGAQ provide for youth focused workers and advocates?
The Youth Advisor currently assists, advances and advocates for youth focused workers through:
- Info Sharing, Referral, Support
- Weekly "youth-e-news" current research, news, funding, employment, training, networking and best practice
- Providing advice, support, feedback to workers on projects, development of policies, grant applications etc.
- Sharing templates, tools, examples between Councils
- Providing a listening ear for debrief / support
- Showcase
- Providing opportunities to present and profile best practice models of youth development through LGonline, LGAQ publications and LGAQ events and conferences.
- Promoting and raising the profile of Youth Development Work and workers through the Youthipedia Publications
- Advocacy
- To Councils to support the investment into Youth Development Programs and Staff to ensure young people are engaged within all aspects of their community
- To Peak Bodies, State and Federal Government through sitting on reference committees or providing submissions about changes to policy, legislation, programs that will affect local government youth practitioners or young people
- Within LGAQ to enhance the understanding of issues affecting young people
- Partnerships
- Developing and brokering partnerships, coordinating conversations and sharing of resources, templates and understandings between around key projects, prioritize and initiatives between Local Governments, Peak Bodies, State Governments
- Development & Networking
- Management and Delivery of the annual Youth Conference (Youthipedia)
- Coordination and /or Support of Regional Youth Development Networks
- Development of Resources that strengthen and develop Youth Development Practice
