Legislation:  The Queensland Disaster Management System is established under the Queensland Disaster Management Act, 2003.

Concepts and Principles:  Disaster Management in Queensland is guided by nationally and internationally accepted Concepts and Principles.

This publication is aimed at providing the background and context of disaster management for elected members to assist them in understanding the role they play in ensuring safer and more sustainable communites that are resilient to the effects of disasters.

It provides an overview of the Disaster Management System and the processes Councils need to undertake to achieve effective disaster management for their communites - including disaster risk management and mitigation.

Although focused on enhancing Elected Member's  awareness of Disaster Management, the publication will be useful for anyone seeking to understand how to build disaster resilient communities.
