Economic Impact of State and Local Government Expenditure on Weed and Pest Animal Management in QLD

In 2002 the LGAQ released a report that examined the economic impact of the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Water (NRM&W) and Local Government expenditure on declared weed and pest animal management initiatives in Queensland.

The 2002 report revealed an average annual expenditure over an eight year period to 2002-03 of $10.2 million by NRM&W and $12 million by Local Government on declared weed and pest animal management across Queensland.

Since 2002 Local Government investment in weed and pest management has increased significantly. In light of this increase the LGAQ undertook an update of the previous “Economic Impact of State and Local Government Expenditure on Weed and Pest Animal Management in Queensland” and examined changes in the relative expenditure of State and Local Government and the impact of expenditures of the newly formed regional NRM bodies, which were not considered in the 2002 report.
