Embracing Cultural Diversity: Action Guide to Community Relations in Queensland Local Government

This Action Guide has been prepared to assist Councils, Managers and other staff to access the benefits of good community relations.

It clarifies terms such as 'cultural diversity', 'community relations' and spells out Councils' responsibilities to meet legislative requirements and manage risk. The Guide also provides a set of recommended actions to understand local diversity, improve service delivery to people of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, develop a more skilled and diverse workforce, improve the quality of planning outcomes, support the development of strong communities and ensure governance and decision making represents all community members.

The Guide has been produced under the Local Area Multicultural Partnership (LAMP) program, a partnership strategy between the Local Government Association of Queensland, participating Councils and the Queensland State Government.
