Inter-generational Conflict
Inter-generational conflict is a universal experience and can be a major area of family disharmony between young people and their parents/grandparents in all cultures.
It is commonly experienced as a result of young people asserting their independence whilst a parent or grandparent asserts their supervision.

When families migrate to a new country, many experience much greater conflict between generations. Migration to a country such as Australia can sometimes disrupt and alter the traditional roles of the family and each member within it.
Inter-generational conflict can sometimes be exacerbated when young people and their parents are settling into and dealing with a new culture. This is particularly relevant for children and women and can result in family tension, resentment and sometimes breakdown.
