Welcome to Arts and Culture

The arts and culture section of the LGAQ forms part of Arts Queensland's 'Think Local, Link Local' strategy. ( 'Artbeat: Regional Arts and Culture Strategy 2010-2014')

This initiative stems from Arts Queensland sector consultation and collaboration with the LGAQ.

Our Arts and Culture Policy Officer is charged with the mandate to build on local government arts and cultural expertise, skills and networks and to advocate for the inclusion of arts and culture in regional community development.

The Local Government Arts and Culture Reference Group offers a forum to discuss emerging trends and issues in arts and cultural development, consider advocacy models, inform policy, and identify strategic priorities for arts and cultural development. View the terms of reference or view the minutes from the last meeting.

The Association's Arts and Culture Advisor is:

Policies and Plans

This information aims to clarify the position (strategic policy) and practice (strategic plans) of arts and culture within local government.

Case for Arts and Culture

You may have heard the catchcry: "Advocate for the arts and culture!", but what does this mean?

Networks and Committees

This space is about connecting  - through networks -  through discussions with your colleagues.  Let this space be a conduit to aid the two-way flow of information, concerns, ideas and opportunities.

Funding

Funding is the 'big one'. It’s the area that can often mean the inclusion or not of arts and cultural activities in the regions.

Resources

If you are responsible for arts and culture, including heritage, within your Council you may find our links and resources helpful.
