CONSULTATION ON THE DRAFT CAPE YORK REGIONAL PLAN

Letter of submission sent to the Honourable Jeff Seeney MP, Deputy Premier, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning.
Submission perspective: The LGAQ supports the aim of the Plan. The LGAQ believes a significant program of land reform is necessary, inclusive of an overarching land administration and housing strategy, to clearly articulate the roles and responsibilities of all spheres of government.

SUBMISSION DOCUMENT

CODE OF PRACTICE – CONCRETE BATCHING PLANTS AND MOTOR VEHICLE WORKSHOPS

Letter of response provided to the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection.
Submission perspective: Consolidated response from local government.

SUBMISSION DOCUMENT

REVIEW OF REGULATORY ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE NATIONAL BROADBAND NETWORK

Submission was sent to the Department of Communications, NBN Regulatory Review.
Submission perspective: The LGAQ does accept the existing structure, but recognises some areas may need improvement to help the long term viability of those communities – retention of copper in towns that are identified as NBN Satellite, exclusion of the mobile services from the NBN, and that the services standards are protected in the bush and that there should be greater controls around greenfield sites.

SUBMISSION DOCUMENT

SINGLE LOCAL GOVERNMENT INDUSTRY MODERN AWARD

Submission provided to the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission – Award Modernisation Local Government Sector.
Submission perspective: The LGAQ maintains that a single award approach to modernising local government sector pre-modernisation awards is inherently possible and practical and best achieves the modern award objectives.

SUBMISSION DOCUMENT

DRAFT LEVEE ASSESSMENT CODE

Submission was sent to the Floodplain Management Team, Department of Natural Resources and Mines.
Submission perspective:  The LGAQ and a number of councils made representations to the Commission submitting that the State Government should be responsible for regulating all levees, as opposed to local government.

SUBMISSION DOCUMENT

ENVIRONMENTAL OFFSETS BILL 2014

Letter of submission was sent to the Agriculture, Resources and Environment Committee.
Submission perspective: LGAQ commends the State Government in the development of the Bill that has cut through unnecessary red tape for local government responsibilities.

SUBMISSION DOCUMENT

NATIONAL DISABILITY STRATEGY – PROGRESS REPORT 2014

Comprehensive submission provided to the Department of Social Services.
Submission perspective: The LGAQ supports the aims of the Plan. A recent call for comments and examples of initiatives that councils' provide to improve access and inclusion for people with disability was undertaken. We received 27 responses and they have been collated in a table.

SUBMISSION DOCUMENT

QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENT LANGUAGE SERVICES POLICY

LGAQ survey response provided to the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Multicultural Affairs.
Submission perspective: Local government would like to see the development of best practice guidelines to assist local governments and the community sector, particularly in those areas that have a particular emphasis on tourism, as well as multicultural communities with more specific needs such as supporting refugees.
