The LGAQ Healthy Leader Awards aim to recognise and reward leaders who have made a significant contribution to developing healthy council workplaces and workers.

Healthy Leaders successfully influence the creation of healthy council workplaces and workers through a range of skills, knowledge or other traits.

The awards highlight leading council mangers and officers for their innovation, initiative and commitment in making their workplace a healthier place for all.

The LGAQ, along with the Preventive Health Unit, Department of Health, have reviewed all applications and it is with great pleasure to announce the Healthy Leader Award Winners for 2014.

Winner – Senior Category Winner

Mike Ellis
People and Culture Manger
Logan City Council

For more than 14 years, Mike Ellis has been an excellent advocate for workplace health and wellbeing within Logan City Council.

Mike has shown exceptional commitment towards improving the health, safety and wellbeing of employees within his organisation.

More recently, Mike has presented at various healthy workers forums and meetings to advocate for and provide advice to other workplaces about how they too can implement a successful health and wellbeing program.

Winner – Officer Category

Jonathon Harris
Human Resources Officer
Cairns Regional Council

Jonathon has demonstrated strong commitment to using the Queensland Workplaces for Wellness resources and tools to inform the planning and provision of Cairns Regional Council's workplace health and wellbeing program.

As a champion and leader within Council, Jonathon has been instrumental in providing a suite of healthy people and place-based strategies that target the interests of workers and workplace. The innovation Jonathon has demonstrated for future strategies has also been acknowledged and we look forward to the development of these plans.

As winner for each of these categories, Mike and Jonathon will be awarded an engraved plaque and a $5000 cash incentive for professional development and/or further workplace health and wellbeing initiatives.
